COUNTRY FOCUS: CASE STUDY C an you describe your recent ICT project initiatives at ADNOC Distribution and how they have better served as a business purpose? This project was initiated in order to enhance the way convenience stores are being operated within all of ADNOC Distribution’s Service Stations. The primary purpose of the project is to automate and optimise business operations controlling order, stock management and optimise items in the convenience store, with centralised control from head office. Can you give us the time scales behind the project and the cost-factor involved for the implementation and maintenance? The project was initiated in October 2012 and the production pilot was launched in January 2013. This system was rolled out in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Western region and Northern Emirates with the help of regional System’s Integrator, EMW MIddle East. The project and its implementation cost to ADNOC Distribution is $606,000, which is inclusive of the software and hardware and also around 400 manhours were spent on this project. Training was provided to 600 users following a Train the Trainer approach and hands on training was provided for the staff for a week in regional pilot stores. Operational Help Manuals were distributed to all end-users in case of any technical difficulties. The HHT System is now implemented in 186 convenience stores across UAE and used by 2,000+ employees as part of the project scope. What would you say is particularly innovative about this project? This project had a synergy of technologies like (Oracle Exadata, Business Intelligence, and MobilityHand Held Terminal) to optimise the business processes and the single most innovative aspect is the Auto Order Intelligence in the system. With the introduction of a new intelligent concept of Auto Ordering (with an average of three seconds to create PO) the HHT System automatically understands the stock position of every item in the convenience stores, studies the sales trend in all our geographically dispersed locations, considers the purchase order, return order, transfers in progress with provision to finetune and then takes into account special orders during holiday seasons. Accordingly, the HHT System adjusts itself to cope with the demands of a very complex supply chain without human intervention. The HHT System has also introduced a Perpetual Stock Take process to ADNOC Distribution’s supply chain, which has enabled us to immediately notify stock losses and introduce corrective action. Prior to HHT, stock losses were only discovered during the inventory counting practice done manually every quarter. This reactive approach to damage control has now been THE HHT SYSTEM HAS ALSO INTRODUCED A PERPETUAL STOCK TAKE PROCESS TO ADNOC DISTRIBUTION’S SUPPLY CHAIN, WHICH HAS ENABLED US TO IMMEDIATELY NOTIFY STOCK LOSSES AND INTRODUCE CORRECTIVE ACTION 50 INTELLIGENTCIO www.intelligentcio.com
