R&M launches specialist knowledge portal for
LAN cabling
R&M, the globally active Swiss developer and provider
of cabling systems for high-end, powerful network
infrastructures, has announced the launch of its new
specialist portal on Local Area Networks (LANs) www.lan.
rdm.com. The site provides information regarding the
areas and application for local data networks and compiles
large quantities of specialist data for network planners and
installers.
The new website feature pages that are organised by
topic and provide the necessary knowledge relating to
information and communication technology cabling
in offices, businesses, residential and non-residential
buildings, hospitals, factories, and on ships.
At the same time, fibre is the only cable
media able to handle longer distance 40 and
100 gigabit channels in the data centre and
the outside plant. While there are several
considerations – from the ability to adequately
handle emerging remote power applications
like 4PPoE, to ensuring low loss, flexible and
scalable fibre connectivity – it’s obvious that
copper and fibre both have their place in the
network and will co-exist for many years to
come. The age-old debate between copper and
fibre has finally come to an end.

Through the portal R&M’s industry experts suggest
solutions to common challenges faced by installers and
provide tips, such as how to correctly integrate surveillance
cameras, WLAN antennas, and cable television into
structured generic and office cabling systems. R&M will
also address the customisation of cabling solutions as
different applications in the industry promote the need for
customised and suitable products.
The website’s service section provides information for
cabling specialists about training opportunities at the R&M
Academy- a program that has been very well received in
the Middle East and which has benefitted a number of
the company’s partners and customers through regular
trainings conducted across the region in countries including
the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Morocco, and
Turkey. Planners and installers can find out about support
services and further training and certification options
available to help them install future-proof networks.
