A DAY IN THE LIFE GET TO KNOW... On the lighter side of things, we ask the industryexperts what makes them tick… Mohammad Dualeh, Regional Sales Manager, MENA at Pure Storage What would you describe as your most memorable achievement? Although we are going back a few years, I would have to say that winning a full scholarship to the United World College of the Atlantic when I was 16 years old is one of the achievements I am most proud of. It was an amazing experience and I met some really wonderful people from over 100 countries, many of whom are my friends to this day. What first made you think of a career in technology? I’ve always had a keen interest in technology. In fact, I have fond memories of coding in BASIC on a Commodore 64! So doing an MSc in Information Systems in the UK in 1999 was a natural progression. I am a passionate advocate of how technology can enable Business Transformation. Flash Storage (and particularly Pure Storage) is doing this by allowing enterprises to do more with less. What style of management philosophy do you employ with your current position? I strongly believe that the most effective leaders are those that lead by example and that is definitely something I try to do every day. What do you think will be the hot technology talking point in 2016? I honestly believe that in the decade ahead, flash memory will push hard drives out of the latency path of performance intensive applications. There is an acceleration of adoption & acceptance from Decision Makers in the region that will not only make obsolete the Tier 1 Enterprise Disk market but will eventually extend to Tier 2 & Tier 3 disk as well. How do you deal with stress and unwind outside of the office? For me, nothing helps clear my head and helps me destress more than getting on my mountain bike and going for a long, hard ride. If you could go back and change one career decision, what would it be? If I could go back in time, I would definitely have joined the IT sector sooner! My first foray into the industry was only in 2000 when I joined Deloitte as an Enterprise Risk Consultant. Prior to that, I worked in Sales. That being said, I gained invaluable sales experience at the start of my career and this has set me up for some very exciting roles and successes in my IT professional life. www.intelligentcio.com INTELLIGENTCIO 77
