TAWAL signs MoU with Dell to introduce OPEN RAN , edge computing in Saudi Arabia ’ s telecom

Dell Technologies and TAWAL signed a Memorandum of Understanding , MoU to collaborate on new opportunities to advance the telecommunications industry in Saudi Arabia . TAWAL , established in 2019 , is the first telecommunications tower company in Saudi Arabia and the largest in the Middle East . As per the MoU , Dell and TAWAL will engage in exploring and harnessing opportunities in edge computing and building use cases tailored to specific industry verticals in Saudi Arabia .

Dell Technologies ’ architectural vision for the telecoms sector includes an end-to-end approach that allows service providers to strategically and efficiently build out and support network investments from the core to the edge to the RAN . As communications service providers transition to 5G , the ability to innovate at the edge of the network and meet the performance and latency requirements is critical to take full advantage of what 5G offers . portfolio of solutions . This in turn will enhance the user experience and help expand the use cases in multiple sectors by utilising TAWAL ’ s infrastructure .
The agreement also focuses on the development and implementation of Open RAN technology and fostering innovation in 5G and beyond . It seeks to drive significant advancements in network flexibility and scalability and aims to redefine Saudi Arabia ’ s telecommunications landscape .

5G private wireless network based on cloudnative O-RAN technology . The trial was hosted on Microsoft Azure Operator Nexus , Microsoft ’ s carrier-grade cloud platform . The collaboration aims to dramatically change the way enterprises in various sectors deploy and manage their private wireless networks .
Utilising O-RAN , stc intends to bring the benefits of openness , virtualisation , flexible , and interoperable networks to various industries and organisations . It involves leveraging the O-RAN architecture and its principles to enhance the connectivity , performance , and agility of enterprise networks .
The trial was performed in an over-the-air environment using Nokia ' s O-RAN 7-2x Compliant Radios and virtual Distributed , Centralised Units , vDU , vCU running on Azure Operator Nexus hosted on the HPE ProLiant DL110 Gen11 server with In-Line L1 acceleration . The trial demonstrated an Augmented Reality use case for industrial applications , showing the potential and versatility of the jointly developed solution .
