Japan based Subaru using Dell PowerScale storage for driver assist technology
Subaru Corporation is teaming with Dell Technologies , to help improve driver safety through the powerful combination of AI and high-performance storage . The collaboration is indicative of AI ’ s profound impact on transforming one of the most common means of transportation , aiming to help make it safer for drivers , passengers and pedestrians .
Subaru can store , manage and use a vast amount of data to advance the development of its next-generation EyeSight Driver Assist Technology with the selection of Dell PowerScale network attached storage systems . Sold in more than 5.5-million EyeSight-equipped vehicles , today ’ s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology monitors traffic movement , optimizes cruise control and warns drivers if they sway outside their lane .
Subaru Lab , the AI development base for Subaru established in 2020 , can store approximately 1,000 times more files on Dell PowerScale systems than with previous platforms . Subaru can now improve AI image analysis by easily accessing stored files on PowerScale systems deployed in data centres across the SUBARU Lab and Tokyo offices , which was not previously possible . The ability to scale and use data flexibly across locations has expanded the possibilities for business expansion .
EyeSight is the world ' s first system to use only stereo camera technology to provide driver assist features such as pre-collision braking , which detects not only cars but also pedestrians and motorcycles in the vehicle ' s path , as well as adaptive cruise control .
A study by Subaru , based on data from Japan ' s Institute for Traffic Accident Research and Data Analysis , ITARDA , has shown that the accident rate of EyeSight-equipped vehicles in Japan is as low as 0.06 %.
Kingston releases industrial grade SSDs
Kingston Digital Europe , announced it had developed a line of Industrial Temp solidstate drives specifically for system builders and design engineers that require a wider operating temperature range for extreme environments . These SSDs are designed for devices such as selfserve kiosks , digital signage , robots , point of sale , and military and agriculture applications , among others .
With support for SATA interfaces , these industrial SSDs will be available in 128GB through 1TB capacities in industrial operating temperature range , -40 ° C to 85 ° C to address climate-controlled and non-climatecontrolled environments . Kingston i-Temp SATA SSDs include 2.5-inch and M . 2 2280 form factors to offer advanced SATA 3 , 6Gbps controllers that automatically perform wear-levelling , garbage collection and other vital NAND Flash management features .
They also incorporate high speed nextgeneration 3D NAND Flash Memory and are drop-in replacements for HDDs delivering higher reliability and up to 20x greater performance .
All industrial grade controller and NAND components are carefully screened and evaluated to certify proper functionality . Designed with specialised firmware to provide thermal management via throttling , and if necessary , shutdown to help protect data .
System builders and their end customers can feel protected with lifecycle management , including a controlled bill of material and a locked firmware code that ensures the SSD that qualifies at the beginning stage of their project is the same SSD they will purchase throughout . p
