Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence , MBZUAI is focusing on developing an AI ecosystem built around skills , knowledge , and research , to create a pipeline of AI talent with the expertise needed to advance AI for societal good , and R & D that is laserfocused on addressing societal challenges .
We have recently added two new departments , computer science and robotics , each with dedicated MSc and PhD . programmes , to complement our existing computer vision , CV , machine learning , ML , and natural language processing , NLP programs . Robotics is a particularly important discipline as it represents one of the key touchpoints for AI to interact physically with people and the world around us .
We are also looking to launch other programmes that will cater to students with backgrounds in disciplines as diverse as mechanical engineering and biochemistry , but who lack the in-depth mathematical and computer science skills required for the existing programs . The

focus here will be on developing the AI engineering skills to implement AI solutions in their chosen field .
We have already seen firsthand the power of introducing AI to leaders in all fields of industry and government in the UAE through our MBZUAI Executive Program , which culminates in capstone projects that design AI solutions to address specific challenges in areas including sustainability .
Balancing innovation versus outcomes in mixed reality
Mixed Reality innovations are now taking place on a monthly basis , for example new devices like Apple Vision Pro , new open virtual reality operating system like Meta Horizon OS , new technology engines like new Unity version , generative AI to build 3D models to live are being introduced rapidly .
One of the challenges is to align stakeholders ’ expectations with technology capability and the efforts needed . Most of the times , businesses are excited about the new experiences , to bring in lots of ideas on what should be implemented and designed . However , when it is broken down to the scope of work , expectations are on the other side .
As an outcome , technology and VR , AR experience experts always find the right balance , in satisfying business objectives and what efforts need to be taken . Once the scope versus budget is matched , it automatically means that the ROI is already calculated which is an essential part of the project objectives .
The most important skill for professional VR , AR service providers , is to have experts in technical , both development and 3D part , which is often missed from the picture , and business teams . They can produce flexible options based on project objectives , timeline , budgets and suggest best ways to achieve them , and take full responsibility during delivery .
More importantly , significant innovations are happening on use-cases where technology can be applied ranging from education in healthcare and safety to showcasing company ’ s products and services to customers during events .
