PROJECT ROUND-UP
UAE SAUDI ARABIA
ADGM Academy( ADGMA), Technology Innovation Institute( TII), Hub71 and ASPIRE have come together to launch the nation’ s first testbed for quantum-secure communications, a major milestone in strengthening digital infrastructure for the future.
The project will focus on advancing methods to transmit ultrasecure data through quantum technology.
As part of the collaboration, TII— the applied research arm of Abu Dhabi’ s Advanced Technology Research Council( ATRC) – has implemented its proprietary Quantum Key Distribution( QKD) solution within ADGM, Abu Dhabi’ s international financial centre.
This has created the first commercial test network of its kind, serving as a‘ living lab’ for highly secure and tamper-proof communications.
In response to increasing cyberthreats and growing data privacy demands, the network allows stakeholders to engage with an active QKD deployment, experiment with real-world use cases, and better understand the solution’ s advanced features and potential applications.
Riyadh’ s data centre capacity has risen beyond 114.6 megawatts, reinforcing the Saudi capital’ s position as an emerging regional technology hub.
The milestone, presented during a briefing to Riyadh Deputy Emir Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, highlights the Kingdom’ s strengthening digital infrastructure and growing investment in the sector.
Figures shared at the meeting showed foreign investment in the Kingdom’ s technology sector has exceeded SR45 billion( US $ 12 billion), together with more than SR9 billion in local investment and SR6.8 billion allocated for communications and digital infrastructure projects.
This growth supports Riyadh’ s drive to transform into a global Smart City, fuelled by the rapid expansion of connectivity.
