Editor’ s Note

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of Intelligent CIO Middle East. This month’ s cover story, which can be found on page 14, features Mohammed Al Khalifa, CEO of the National Cyber Security Center of Bahrain. He tells us how the Kingdom is taking a decisive step towards a quantum-safe economy through a landmark national partnership with SandboxAQ.

The initiative positions Bahrain among the first governments globally to operationalise post-quantum cybersecurity at scale, addressing emerging risks such as‘ harvest-now, decrypt-later’ attacks.

By deploying SandboxAQ’ s AI-powered AQtive Guard platform across more than 60 government ministries, Bahrain is creating a unified framework for cryptographic visibility, assessment and remediation.
The programme strengthens national cyber-resilience by standardising governance, reducing fragmentation and enabling a co-ordinated, risk-based approach to protecting critical services and sovereign data.
Artificial Intelligence plays a central role in managing cryptographic risk at sovereign scale, helping prioritise modernisation efforts and monitor vulnerabilities as threats evolve.
Together, these measures reinforce Bahrain’ s long-term cybersecurity strategy, support secure Digital Transformation and set a benchmark for regional and global post-quantum readiness.
Elsewhere, we learn how the debate around AI has moved from whether to adopt it to how to live with it. In all industries, leaders are grappling with how to embed AI into everyday work without compromising trust, data security or people.
Last month, Intelligent CIO Middle East hosted a roundtable, sponsored by Kyndryl, which explored what it really takes to scale AI responsibly; and why culture, data and governance matter as much as the technology itself.
