Across the Middle East, national digital ambitions are accelerating the shift, forcing CIOs to rethink everything from data residency and infrastructure ownership to encryption, operational control and sovereign AI.
For years, sovereign cloud occupied a relatively narrow space in enterprise technology strategies. It was largely associated with regulated industries, government workloads and requirements to keep sensitive data within national borders.
That definition is rapidly becoming outdated. As organisations move critical applications to the cloud and AI becomes embedded in core operations, sovereignty is moving firmly onto the board agenda. The conversation is no longer simply about where data resides.
It is increasingly about who controls the infrastructure, who can access information, which jurisdiction applies and whether organisations can continue operating securely as cyber, regulatory and geopolitical risks evolve.
