Middle East students win awards at 2018 ICT
competition final in China
T
hirteen teams of students from across the Middle East have
won prizes at Huawei’s International ICT Competition finals.
The winners were selected following a gruelling three months of
qualifying rounds that saw participation from 10 countries in the
Middle East. Their prizes were awarded at the ICT Talent Cultivation
and Award Ceremony in Shenzhen.
In total, 14,748 students across the Middle East applied for the
competition, from which 4,915 were selected to take part in the
preliminary rounds. A total of 214 students passed on to the final
round, and 39 in total from 13 teams travelled to China to compete
internationally.
The ICT Competition was made possible through the co-operation
of 17 ministries across 10 countries. 226 colleges and universities
took part in total, and 65 participated in Huawei’s roadshow. 950
students additionally passed the Huawei HCNA certification exam.
The 13 finalist teams had a unique opportunity to learn from
Huawei’s leading global ICT on an all-expense paid trip to Huawei’s
headquarters in China.
The first prize went to a team from Iraq and second prize went to
two teams from Lebanon and Bahrain while the third prize went to
three teams from Jordan, KSA and Pakistan. The remaining seven
teams won the excellence prize to award them for their outstanding
participation. Three tutors and 11 academic institutions received the
excellent tutor and excellent academy awards.
Nokia supports Alfa on the road to

Category 16 (Cat 16) capable devices.

operator managed by Orascom TMT,
will deploy 4.5G Pro technology using the
Nokia AirScale 5G-ready radio platform
following a successful test of the technology.
With this, Alfa will be able to introduce
Gigabit LTE speeds for its subscribers.

The deployment follows the MOU signed in
MWC 2018 and is an important step for Alfa
to prepare its network to eventually offer
innovative 5G services to its subscribers.

will enable them to enjoy data-hungry
applications and services such as Ultra High
Such capabilities are critical for operators
facing relentless demand for data-driven
services and preparing for the advent of 5G
networks and services.
Nokia has defined a clear path to 5G
through 4.5G Pro and 4.9G. The company
already announced 4.5G Pro and 4.9G in
September 2016 to enable operators such
as Alfa to meet the ever-increasing data
demands of their subscribers. n
