EDITOR’S NOTE
W
elcome to the latest edition of
Intelligent CIO magazine. Have
you ever been frustrated by the
amount of time it takes to open a bank
account? This usually involves taking the
effort to make a special trip into a bank
only to embark on a time-consuming and
laborious process. The good news is that this
frustration is set to end with the adoption
of biometrics within the banking sector for
quicker and more secure onboarding.
This month’s cover story features an in-
depth look at how Bank ABC, which provides
banking services through its network of retail
outlets in Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria,
has benefited from implementing Jumio’s
Identity Verification solution.
Bank ABC’s integration of Jumio’s Identity
Verification enables the bank to verify online
customers by having them first capture a
picture of their government-issued ID with
a smartphone and then take a selfie, with
certified liveness detection functionality.
This has achieved the aim of eliminating
the need for customers to visit branch
offices when creating new banking
accounts and achieving seamless and
quicker customer journeys for accessing
banking services securely.
Jumio’s mission is to make the Internet a
safer place by protecting the ecosystems
of businesses through cutting-edge online
identity verification and authentication

services that quickly and accurately connect
a person’s online and real-world identities. and cost with Commvault HyperScale and
Commvault Complete Backup and Recovery.
Not only do Jumio’s solutions onboard good
customers faster and maintain compliance,
they also fight fraud, since most fraudsters
prefer not to have their likeness captured by
a company they’re attempting to defraud. Previously backup was a challenge with
underlying technology scattered across
different environments and running on
ageing hardware.

Yousif Almas, the bank’s Group Chief Digital
Officer, has to say about it.
In this month’s Country Focus we take a
detailed look at how leading technology
companies are targeting the country’s up-
and-coming talent in an attempt to increase
the skills base of Jordan.
Orange Jordan and Huawei Jordan are both
enthusiastic about the country’s potential for
technological development and have been
working to provide its young people with
programming skills required by the market.
As a result the company has implemented
Commvault HyperScale to support its
digitalisation ambitions and safeguard its
manufacturing operations.
We speak to Mohammed Azam, IT
Infrastructure Head at Emirates Steel, about
the benefits of the implementation which
include ease of installation and use.
As usual we have the latest news from

The importance of such projects is
illustrated by the fact that job opportunities
that may arise in Jordan as a result of
technology are likely to reach 10,000 over
the next five years.
No surprise then that progress is being made
on this front with so much at stake. Turn to
p48 to find out more.
This month we also take a look at how steel
producer Emirates Steel has reduced its risk
