NEWS Qatar Airways partners with the ministry to widen access to IT for staff Q atar Airways has announced a partnership with the Ministry of Transport and Communications that aims to widen access to Information Technology to its junior members of staff in Qatar. To formalise the partnership, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at Qatar Information Technology Conference and Exhibition. In addition, Qatar Airways has announced a new partnership with the ministry to facilitate digital access for expatriates in its operations in Qatar. A MoU was signed during the opening day of the Qatar Information Technology Exhibition. Qatar Airways is one of the youngest global airlines to serve all six continents and connects to more than 160 destinations every day with a fleet of the latest-generation aircraft. It operates from Hamad International Airport in Doha and offers a mix of short, medium and long-haul flights. The partnership, which falls under the ministry’s Better Connections Program, will see hundreds of computers installed at Qatar Airway’s company accommodation. It will also see the delivery of IT training for Qatar Airways staff through workshops and e-learning courses, as well as the development of digital resources for the airline’s employees to help them understand their employment rights and manage key administrative processes. ////////////////// AI and 5G put under spotlight at Qatar Innovation Week Q atar Innovation Week has celebrated the value of future technologies. The three-day event, which ran from November 25 to 27, explored opportunities in AI and 5G Technologies in Qatar and hosted world leaders in one of the world’s biggest economies. The three-day comprehensive innovation festival was centred on three separate technology events in a row that included the World 5G Show, the World AI Show and the Industry 4.0 Masterclass by Henrik von Scheel. These were all designed to usher Qatar towards producing world-class AI applications in areas of national interest. Mohammed Saleem, the CEO and founder of Trescon, said: “Qatar is the first nation to launch the 5G network commercially, and with the 2022 FIFA World Cup that is set to take place, it is the perfect time to create a platform that can drive opportunities for new businesses based on AI and 5G technology. “Qatar Innovation Week supported the Qatar National Vision 2030 by bringing together governments, AI solutions providers, renowned international experts and foreign investors to strengthen the nation’s infrastructure capacity.” Qatar is reinvigorating its AI-enabled infrastructure to accommodate the massive influx of visitors. 14 INTELLIGENTCIO www.intelligentcio.com
