This month’s cover features Donna Lunn, Chief Information Officer at Mediclinic Middle East. Mediclinic Middle East (MCME), one of the largest private healthcare groups in the UAE, is implementing TrakCare from InterSystems across its network of hospitals. Its deployment, including the latest example at Mediclinic Al Noor Hospital, enables the group’s care providers to have a holistic view of each patient’s clinical, administrative and financial information at any given time. TrakCare’s Electronic Medical Record System (EMR) enables the group’s care providers to have a holistic view of each patient’s clinical, administrative and financial information at any given time. The EMR system supports MCME medical staff in their decision-making, while creating more opportunities to offer patients an enhanced experience and seamless care journey as they spend less time waiting. “We believe in utilising technology to achieve these goals and transform care delivery,” said Lunn, who added that the company is delighted with the successful implementation of TrakCare at Mediclinic Al Noor Hospital. www.intelligentcio.com Turn to page 58 to read an in-depth interview with Lunn who highlights the many benefits of the solution. Huawei has enjoyed incredible growth in the infrastructure and smart devices markets in the last year. In a face-to-face interview Intelligent CIO spoke to Alaa Elshimy, Managing Director, Enterprise Business Group, Middle East, Huawei, about the company’s performance in the region and the potential of Industrial IoT in combination with AI and 5G. We discussed reasons for the company’s rapid growth. He told us: “One major differentiator is our investment in R&D. Last year we invested US$15.3 billion. This year we are planning to invest US$18 billion. These are huge numbers. This is maybe bigger than the total profit of some of the competition.” Elshimy added that the objective is to bring new technology to help transform the industry to the benefit of the enterprises and the consumer business. On a note of opportunity he added: “So things are changing in the world because of the involvement of technology and because we are becoming more demanding as individuals. That’s creating more challenges but also creating new opportunities.” Turn to page 36 to find out more. As usual we have the latest news from around the region and your favourite features.
