EGA shifts learning online to support employee talent development during COVID-19
Etisalat extends partnership with Ericsson to enable its 5G Business Support System
Emirates Global Aluminium ( EGA ), the largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside oil and gas , has successfully shifted employee learning online to support talent development during COVID-19 , with over 40,000 uses of a specially-developed virtual learning platform since February .
At the start of COVID-19 , EGA moved workshops and learning circles entirely online in just five weeks , launching a new virtual learning platform called My Learning . EGA also trained its instructors and facilitators to deliver courses online rather than face-to-face .
My Learning provides access to EGA ’ s entire range of courses and modules , covering core skills related to safety and compliance , management and leadership skills , and technical training amongst many other development areas . EGA also developed new training content to empower its employees with core skills required during the pandemic including COVID-19 prevention , leading virtually , virtual accountability , emotional resilience and fostering positive mind-sets .
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban , CEO , EGA , said : “ Training and developing our people is important for our future , and it was vital that we continue this work during COVID-19 . As in other areas of our business , we have had to adapt rapidly to the new reality , and I am pleased with what the learning team has achieved .”
EGA has digitised the entire training framework for its National Training programmes , which apply both theoretical and practical training for operational and technical roles .
UAE-based telco Etisalat , one of the leading telecommunications operators in emerging markets , has selected Ericsson ’ s state of the art Charging System and Ericsson ’ s 5G Business Support Systems ( BSS ) as part of its national 5G network evolution .
Ericsson Charging will be deployed across Etisalat UAE ’ s entire network . A dedicated Ericsson Charging and Policy Solution will also be implemented utilising Ericsson ’ s cloud-native , micro-servicesbased Charging Access Function ( CAF ) which is a new access component within the 5G Service Based Interface ( SBI ).
Ericsson Charging , a modular , scalable , open , single convergent Online Charging System ( OCS ) using industry standards and protocols will allow Etisalat users to control their costs through flexible packaging , bonuses and discounts . The deal is part of a strategic partnership , which will see Ericsson and Etisalat UAE partnering on digital infrastructure to enable 5G use and business cases .
Ali Khalfan Ali Al Shamsi , Vice President , Charging and Fulfilment Operations Etisalat , said : “ We are pleased to extend our partnership with Ericsson to provide our charging and 5G Business Support Systems as part of the UAE ’ s evolution to 5G , which is in line with our overall strategy of ‘ Driving the digital future to empower societies ’.
