wWhat would you describe as your most memorable achievement ?
In the early days , it was about jumping into Java before it was a recognised thing . Outside of that , I moved to San Francisco and started my first start-up , Decosoft , before I was legally able to drink . Later on , building out Marakana into one of the fastest growing private companies in the San Francisco Bay area and the eventual acquisition by Twitter . Following that , Twitter University was one of the highest-rated programs at Twitter Engineering .
What first made you think of a career in technology ?
I was always in technology , ever since my parents bought me the Commodore 128 computer .
What style of management philosophy do you employ with your current position ?
Make sure everyone is crystal clear on what the objective is and help them craft it so they own it . Then , provide clear feedback on how they are doing and coach them accordingly .
What do you think is the current hot technology talking point ?
For us , it ’ s about the people side of technology . The pandemic has changed how we work and that has had a big impact on how we create technical solutions , too .
How do you deal with stress and unwind outside the office ?
I ’ m religious about my meditation , exercise , diet and sleep ( MEDS ). I meditate and journal daily . My exercise regimen is running around 10 miles per week plus three high-intensity workouts . I only eat plant-based food and fast on most days . I try to consistently get 7 or more hours of sleep , usually going to bed by 9pm .
There are many roads to the top of the same mountain . Start by looking inward and connecting with your own core purpose . Begin with that ‘ why ’ and you ’ ll go far .
