AI expert downplays fears of ChatGPT misuse
The Chairman of the Artificial
Intelligence Committee at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology ( MCIT ) in Qatar , Hassan Jassim Al Sayed , has downplayed fears over the misuse of ChatGPT by students .
Concerns have been raised in solving their assignments and writing research papers as they depend on information already available to the public on the Internet .
Al Sayed stressed the need to consider the negative impacts of using AI , such as the possibility of biased decision-making and the impact on the labour market , calling on governments to take several steps to avoid misuse of Artificial Intelligence technologies , in addition to regulating the use of such technologies through legislation and policies that restrict their use for specific purposes or give licenses to companies to use it .
He highlighted the need to put in place mechanisms to supervise and monitor the use of these technologies for illegal or immoral purposes while providing educational and awareness programmes to educate the public about the potential risks and benefits of these systems , and how to use them in a responsible manner .
He said the use of AI systems , such as ChatGPT , depends on how it is used , knowing the potential benefits and disadvantages of using it and achieving a balance between developing creativity and innovation in those systems while protecting society from its risks .
