EDITOR ’ S QUESTION

Transforming a business into a digital enterprise means that more and more systems , devices and sensors are supported by and communicate via a common network platform , sharing and analysing information to drive strategic decisions . At the IT network infrastructure level , a twisted-pair copper cabling system will enable all types of low-voltage systems and devices to connect and communicate .

Shielded category 6A and category 7A copper cabling systems are best suited to support network convergence and the integration of various different building systems . These cabling systems facilitate 10 Gbps performance with sufficient headroom to support rising bandwidth needs , as demanded by applications like audio-visual and the latest Wi-Fi , but also for emerging and future IoT and AI technologies .

high temperature environments up to 75 ° C for better heat dissipation and superior support of the latest higher power IEEE 802.3bt Type 3 and Type 4 PoE .
The rising amount of data in the enterprise , fuelled by emerging technologies that demand more bandwidth and low-latency performance , also drives data transmission speeds in the enterprise data centre space .
For switch to switch connections , parallel fibre optic technology , such as Base-8 fibre solutions with multifibre push-on connectivity , MPO , MTP fibre connectors should be considered .
Base-8 MPO OM4 will easily support the migration to 100Gbps and 400Gbps technologies . In switch to server environments , where transmission speeds are increasing to 25 and 50 Gbps , Direct Attach Copper Cables , DACs or Active Optical Cables , AOCs are a suitable option .
At the same time , these systems support power over Ethernet , PoE technology , enabling connected devices to be powered over the copper cabling and eliminating the need for expensive AC power connections . PoE however elevates the temperatures inside the cable which can lead to a degradation of the performance of the network .
For short server-switch-connections in a Top of Rack , ToR design , QSFP28 DACs for 100Gbps and SFP28 DACs for 25Gbps can be deployed , whereas in Middle of Row , MoR or End of Row , EoR configurations Active Optical Cables are a suitable option to cover 10 – 15 metres within a row . p
The shielded features of Cat 6A and Cat7A make these cables especially suitable for mechanical reliability in
