TECH TALK
As the data centre industry transitions from air cooling to liquid and immersion systems driven by Artificial Intelligence, success becomes dependent on adaptability.
Modular and adaptable piping therefore becomes increasingly important. Mechanical adaptability, including the ability to reconfigure, expand or repurpose systems without major disruption, becomes essential to sustainable transformation.
Efficient and environmentally conscientious
When sustainability is framed only as efficiency, it risks becoming a narrow technical exercise. But when viewed through adaptability, it becomes a mindset focused on designing and operating with the future in mind. Jordi Vila Rotxés, Data Center Operations Manager at Equinix Spain, said:
“ Operational sustainability requires a cultural and organisational shift. Beyond infrastructure and technology, it involves programmatic initiatives to transform behaviours, foster collaboration across teams and leverage synergies between sites and regions.”
Efficiency, he said, requires alignment across every layer of a data centre organisation as Artificial Intelligence, regulation and environmental pressures converge.
The big picture of operational sustainability will always remain important. However, it is often the quiet mechanical design decisions that ensure these ambitions are realised.
Choices such as adaptable piping systems enable facilities to tolerate re-routing, reconfiguration and expansion, supporting long-term operational continuity and sustainability. • www. intelligentcio. com
